Dealing with lower back pain is a very challenging part of life for millions of people. For many people that are struggling with lower back pain, sciatica is the cause of the pain. Sciatica is a common ailment in which there is additional pressure placed in the sciatic nerve, which is located in the lower back. This then causes back pain. Fortunately, through exercises provided by your chiropractor, you can experience a relief from this pain.

Therapeutic Stretching For The Legs When Dealing With Sciatic Pain

Leg stretches are an exercise or activity that is sure to promote relief for your lower back. To do a leg stretch, position yourself behind a stable chair, box or other item that reaches you at the waist while standing. Put your heel on the box and then elevate your leg. Lean forward a bit while maintaining as much control as possible. This should have a light stretching effect.

Use The Sitting Pigeon Pose For Relief

An alternative pose that you can use to promote sciatic pain relief is the pigeon pose. This will put you on the ground so that your foot bottoms are touching one another and your knees are bent. Bend your upper torso forward and then try resting in this stretch for a minimum of 10 seconds.

Knee to Opposite Shoulder

For this activity, keep your legs straight while lying on the ground. Lift a single leg with your knee bent and bring it close to your opposite should. This stretches the lower back area and gives you the relief of a soothing pull.

Whenever you are dealing with lower back pain and want to start exercises, you should meet with your chiropractor first. Your chiropractor will be able to carefully provide you with a full examination and can give you detailed exercises to follow. By following these instructions, you should be able to improve the strength of your back and take pressure off of the sciatic nerve.
