Airlines are among the most vulnerable points of attack by criminals and terrorists. This is because people from numerous countries converge and diverge from this point. For this reason, it is significant to have tight world aviation security. Normally, there are common measures you will find in almost every airline. For a first time traveler, a number of these are unreasonable. However, for every safety procedure enacted, there is a reason behind it. Below is a description of six of these measures.

Before boarding planes, every traveler must go through body and bags checkpoints. Individuals and carrier bags are checked independently. If a screen detects metallic element, it raises an alarm that prompts officers to confirm what it is. The necessity for this process is that initially, several airlines have captured terrorists who hid grenades inside their carrier bags. Others hid objects in their pockets or attached them to body parts. By screening, officials are able to minimize such cases.

Every airplane has a given amount of luggage allowed for each passenger. Similarly, there are contents allowed and prohibited. To ascertain that luggage contains allowed components only, they are taken through a search too. Like small bags, the luggage is screened through X-ray scanners to detect metals. The case that motivated enactment of this regulation is the bombing of different planes using explosives hidden in different devices.

No pointy or sharp objects are allowed whether metallic or non-metallic. Initially, knives were not prohibited. This is because officers thought that knives could not be used to perform a major attack. However, using box cutters, terrorists were able to capture an entire plane. Besides this, passengers can harm themselves too using sharp objects. For this reason, before boarding a plane, travelers must not be in possession of such tools.

Where bouts are very common, passengers are often asked to remove shoes during scanning. To explain this, there was a case of an unsuccessful attack where a criminal had hidden a bomb in shoes. Luckily, a passenger saw it and alerted the officials. Astonishingly, the person had passed through metal detectors. To avoid similar cases, some airlines do not scan individuals wearing shoes.

Bottles are allowed only if they are small in size. Criminals have become more cunning. Some find every avenue to smuggle criminal elements including bottles. For instance, some airports have captured individuals carrying hydrogen peroxide explosions as disguised as drinking water. In fact, had people not protested, American and British planes had banned any liquid besides baby milk. Today, there is a restriction on the size of the bottles allowed.

Hand-held metal detectors are not completely effective. As a matter of fact, they are limited in nature. Since body screening is a necessity, these detectors had to be improved. Today, every passenger goes through an entire body scanning under improved X-ray scanners. Through these devices, any component that could be hidden even in the most private areas can be exposed. Even though scanners are very effective, there are concerns around privacy invasion and health safety.

There are all reasons to enhance safety in airports. Regardless of how unreasonable a safety measure looks, there is always a motivation behind it. This is why every step is being taken to ensure that proper security is upheld.
