Nowadays, it is easy to create arts and craft by yourself. You only need to have the imagination and creative thinking to do it. Every day and household items are only some of the objects where you can do it yourself. Personalized wooden signs are easy to do.

These signs may for any purpose that you thought of. It may be possible that you will give these as presents for your friends, or even that special someone. The reason may also be a project idea as gift for your family. No matter the occasion and season, this is one DIY that will serve as a gift to anyone.

It does not have to be expensive. Secondhand or unused items may become your source of materials. As long as they are still salvageable and usable, you may add these as decorations over your signs.

The first thing you need is wood. Look for one in your backyard or tool shed. If it is too big, you can cut it to the size you want. It also does not matter if the surface is rough because sandpapers can smooth it out. Sometimes, chipped side pieces can add to the design of the wood. So if you like, you may let these chips be.

You also need writing materials. Permanent markers are great. You may use them if you like. However, the aesthetics of your sign would be greater if you use brushes. You are able to see the stroke imprints of the brush as you write your piece. Pair it with artist or acrylic paints in order to dry the inks faster.

Think of something that you like to write on it. The phrase can be as long as you want. Your write up may be something in relation to your family such as family motto or the meaning of your family name. Your favorite phrases and quotes may serve as well. If the purpose is as a gift, you may write the name of the person you are giving it to and your message.

Once the paint dries, you can now do finishing coat on its surface with mod podge water base sealer or any decoupage glue. It will protect the writings you have done and the designs you made. To DIY it, you can use polyvinyl acetate or PVA glue and mix it with an equal part of water. This mixture does the same job as well.

You can hang it up the wall once it dries. You may use the age old method of hammer and nails, or you can use vinyl decal. Whichever of the two you choose, clean first the wall of any dusts before placing the sign on its surface. The advantage of the vinyl decal or wall stickers over the former is that no holes will be present in both your sign and your wall.

Now, you are ready to step back and admire your work. Sit down on the couch across from it and relax. Making it DIY creates self fulfillment in yourself due to the hard work you did.
