We are living in a modern technopolis, and it is getting more modern and technological by the day. In the big cities, you will no doubt find yourself surrounded by the trappings of mechanization and automation. They are so sweeping and pervasive that they slink their way into the minutiae of human life, and courtroom operations are no exemption. Evidently, technology is an extremely popular and telling form of evidence. Given this application, it will most likely be under the turf of digital forensics new york.

Crimes are a given in most complex societies, and they are very affective whether one be the victim, perpetrator, or mere spectator. And whatever the extent of the breach, if a plaintiff files a complaint to a court of law, the defendant would have to play the ball. This will result in a volley of evidence and counter evidence that can boggle even the most discerning judge.

The onset of technology saw to the popularity of digital evidence in the form of videos, audios, files, documents, and metadata. It might seem, then, that law enforcement is already a cinch, what with these nifty tools. However, we havent factored the probability that establishing culpability might, in fact, be as convoluted as ever before.

This calls for the expert diagnostics of digital forensics. This offshoot of forensic science has to do with the recovery, investigation and interpretation of potential evidence in technological devices. These include computers, network devices, cell phones, laptops, tablets, and related gizmos.

Digital forensics deal mainly with computers but network investigations also come under its turf, especially in investigating sources of security breaches and attacks in the form of viruses and other malware. There are also services for mobile devices that recover evidence from phones, tablets, SIM cards, GPS devices, et cetera. Image, video, and audio forensics extract and analyze data in order to validate their authenticity.

There are more or less five steps in the digital forensic process. First off, the investigator would have to identify potential sources, locations, and custodians of relevant data. If found, these must be preserved and placed in a special legal hold so that they might not be tampered and modified. After which, important evidence has be collected, that is, collated and organized in an organized format. The last step is to present the resultant conclusions in court.

Working in this field is no mean feat. There are certain skills one must acquire before he can qualify as a digital forensic examiner. Extensive computer skills and technological knowhow are givens. Analytical talent is a must, and observation skills are a big plus. One also has to be well organized so that he will to be able to deliver successfully.

These forensics experts can be found in a variety of settings. They are found in government agencies, especially in investigative bureaus and police departments. Private corporations also have a battalion of examiners to keep their computer systems and security topnotch. Law firms would also have a leverage if they contract with these nifty investigators.

With the coming years, digital forensics would only grow in importance. Its significance is of no niggling proportions. When performed and delivered properly, they can make all the difference in litigation and the subsequent betterment of society.
