It is common for people to confuse preventive visit with wellness visit under the Medicare Part B. Though these two words are interchanged, they refer to two different elements. Your preventative care Langhorne PA visit allows you to undergo IPPE or Initial Preventive Physical Examination. Since it should be conducted within the first year of enrolling for Medicare Part B, it is referred to as Welcome to Medicare Visit.

This initial visit is meant to assess your safety levels and functional ability. You will also be discussing the end-of-life plan with your physician and making necessary adjustments. The physician, depending on results of findings obtained will refer you to a specialist, counsel you or educate you on important issues regarding your health.

Body metrics of height, body mass index and weight will also be measured. The physician takes your blood pressure and other factors that he or she thinks are important in determining your health status. Your family and medical history will be reviewed. You should have an idea of conditions that have affected your children, parents, and people in your bloodline. This review enables the doctor to determine your vulnerability or level of risk.

The physician will take the opportunity to evaluate your mental health position. Some of the issues examined are vulnerability to depression and whether you are at risk. The physician proposes mitigation steps as soon as possible to avoid deterioration. Social history will also be reviewed alongside visual acuity. The level of risk or vulnerability will be guided by your age, gender and family health history. The doctor may order further tests based on what he finds.

This initial visit is always covered under the Medicare scheme. Under physical examination, any screening tests that are gender based will be paid for. Medication provided based on the results of these tests will also be covered under the plan. The screening must be focused on preventing deterioration of the condition other than treating it. Diagnosis that needs addressing and new conditions discussed will not be covered.

The visit will also cover immunization. The immunization covered includes Measles, Mumps and Rubella or MMR, flu and both Hepatitis A and B. Any treatment or further procedures recommended are aimed at preventing the condition or disease. Travel immunization is not covered. This includes Malaria, typhoid and rabies, among others.

The physician relies on your gender, age and overall health to determine the tests and screening required. Women aged 40 and above will receive mammography free of charge. All adults above the age of 50 are screened for colorectal cancer under the cover. All adults and anyone in the risky age bracket are screened for blood pressure free of charge. Medicare Part B does not cover follow-up tests or screening beyond that.

Though you take this preventive visit, you are required to attend an exam every year to determine your level of wellness. This visit is aimed at assessing progress of certain situations and advising on the best approach. It helps you arrest a situation early before it escalates. It is through reviews and monitoring that you maintain optimal health.
