Using self tanners offers a safe alternative to tanning beds and sunbathing. Exposing skin to harmful radiation from UV light causes serious body skin problems such as cancer. Tan beds are also not so safe for your skin. However when you consider using a sunless tanning lotion, you keep away from these dangerous tan procedures. As much as people want to glow their skin and obtain a gorgeous look, they should make sure they do it safely.

Since people have different types of skin, some products may be sensitive to specific skin properties. A spot testing can help in determining the effects you will get from a tan. A patch test is essential because it allows you establish if the tanner will work pretty well on your skin. Also, make sure you choose a lotion, which gives a tint for extended period.

Improper use of tan products can lead to streaks and ugly marks. A pre-application procedure is needed to clean the body and open up the pores. Proper shaving of thick hair on body such as the chest will enhance even distribution of tan. The presence of hair on your skin can affect the way in which a tan lotion spreads on surface.

The hair could trap some of the lotions and create orangey and streaked surfaces. To prevent those problems, you should make sure every procedure is done properly. You need to wash your body before you put on any substance in dermis. By washing, you remove the dirt, oils, dead skin, and salts on surface.

The tint can remain for sometime before it fades. With the natural sloughing of skin cells through normal aging and replacement, the tan will eventually disappear. Due to the many products, you can find in stores, you should seek for those which offer lengthy tints. Some lotions can only tint your skin for about a day or so but there are others that could last for about 5 days or more.

Moreover, the body should be cleaned properly so that debris like dead skin, salts, and dirt are removed. For a tan to adhere properly on dermis, the surface should be cleaned properly. It not only opens up pores for easy penetration of tan but also ensures even distribution. Use of gloves is essential to prevent the palms of hands from tinting or staining.

Allow the shaved areas to heal by shaving some days before you apply your tan. In choosing self tanning products, make sure you go for one that can offer a tint effect for long. Some products will only remain on skin for a few days and fade away. Others can stay on skin for a couple of days or even weeks before they fade out.

Such inconsistencies in tanning will eventually produce undesirable effects. Some skin such as the facial part may require a lighter shade when compared to other body parts. Alternatively, you may want to apply one layer of tan on facial skin against two layers of same tan on other body parts. This is because facial skin absorbs substances faster than the other parts.
