Many children grew up with parents who were constantly trying to correct their poor posture. Even teachers may have gotten into the act, trying to get you to stop slouching at your desk. Though you may have thought this was annoying at first, there was good reason for their concern. If you are concerned now as an adult, you can contact a Seattle Chiropractic service to help you out.

Bad posture is not because you are lazy, like some people think. It can actually be an issue of muscle weakness, either in the abdominals or the back. It could be an injury or pain preventing you from standing up straight and not slouching.

Slouching is not something to be taken lightly, because it can really take its toll on some of your most vital organs. For example, slouching can constrict the muscles in your chest, which can really affect your heart. You may also be crushing your lungs so that they cannot take in as much oxygen with each breath, which can be dangerous.

Many people have seen a chiropractor at work, using a series of spinal adjustments to make the cracking sound in your back, which is air and gas being released to relieve pressure and tension. They may ask you to go through around of these adjustments.

The doctors may also ask you to do a series of exercises to help strengthen back and abdominal muscles, making it easier to stand up straight. Some special stretches may be involved as well.

Some lifestyle changes may also be in order. If you have an uncomfortable bed, the doctor may ask you to change up your mattress so you can sleep better. The longer you sleep, the more time your spine has to decompress each night. If you are overweight, shedding some pounds will allow you feel and look better each day.
