Acupuncture is a traditional form of treatment that has existed for a very long period of time. It has its origin in ancient Chinese Medical System. Its adoption in the western world only happened recently and has continued to happen over the years. Some of the conditions that acupuncturists claim to be able to treat include neck pain, low back pain, knee pain, osteoarthritis, and migraine. However, scientific proof does not yet exist regarding the truth in the claim that the above-mentioned conditions can be treated by acupuncturists. The WHO has however listed some conditions that acupuncture has proven to be useful in treating.

The conditions include low and high blood pressure, painful periods, chemotherapy, some gastric conditions, facial pain, tennis elbow, dental pain, and sprains. Also, the WHO recommends the use of acupuncture for the treatment of other conditions, but states that more proof about its efficiency in these cases is needed. The conditions include spine pain, neuralgia, fibromyalgia, stiff neck, vascular dementia, drug addiction, Tourette syndrome, and whooping cough.

This treatment should be safe for a huge variety of patients if it is carried out in the correct way. The level of safety relies on the person carrying it out. It is important to pick a professional who specializes in this procedure. There are few side effects related to this procedure. This process is mostly offered together with other types of conventional treatment.
