If you're just starting a new business or want to promote your creative talents, you may decide to save money and create your own online site. There is software available to help you do it. Unless you are an experienced designer however, you may spend time, money, and a lot of effort and still not get the results you want. It probably isn't the business or talent that is lacking. It's more likely that you have fallen into some common traps that make website design Tucson AZ entrepreneurs attempt less than successful.

It's really tempting to add a lot of razzle dazzle to your site and load it up with graphics and how-to videos. What happens is that your site takes forever to load. You have probably abandoned sites because they spun instead of opening after a second or two. Instead of making this mistake, you need to consider speed a design element. It won't do you any good to have a jazzy site if it takes too long to load.

Cluttering your pages with text and pictures will confuse and annoy users. When pages are full of stuff, without any cohesion, the user's eye doesn't know what to do. Users will choose content and usability over flashy graphics every time. The solution to the problem is to keep it simple and not be afraid of white space.

In your attempt to get the user enthusiastic about your offer, you may over sell with uninterrupted blocks of black text. When someone goes to your site, it should be easy to find what they are looking for. No one wants to scroll through a mountain of words to find the one sentence that answers their question.

This is an easy mistake to correct. You just have to break up the block into smaller ones, add eye catching and informative headlines in a different font or color. Pictures can work to help the user's eye move through the page as well.

It may not make much sense, but you have to tell the user what you want them to do. Your call to action has to be clear, consistent, and concise. People make a mistake when they bury it in the text or have conflicting instructions for the user. The solution is to make the call to action dominant on the page, and make it easy for the user to comply.

Everybody has gone to a site at one time or another to find something that looks like it was created on one of the earliest computers on the market. This makes most people suspicious of the business. They believe that the site is probably representative of the product or service being offered. If you've afraid you are guilty of this, you have to change.

You might think there's not much to designing websites. You would be wrong. It not only takes talent, but an understanding of user mentality with a good dose of common sense thrown in.
