The colorectal surgery is a field of medicine which will be dealing with some disorders that often occur in a persons colon, rectum, and anus. Another term for this is proctology. Those specialized physicians on the field are called as colorectal surgeons or proctologists. This operation type involves many types procedures and also methods that are to be discussed briefly in this written article.

The colorectal surgeons are needed to undergo the extensive education and the advanced trainings. And also, they need to have a very comprehensive knowledge on the general operation, diagnosis, and the treatment for disorders concerning the anus, colon, and rectum. A Morrilton AR colon surgeon specializes in an operative, postoperative, and preoperative care for the patients having colorectal disorders.

A lot of procedures and a lot of terms have been used most often by surgeons. Four of the most common terms in a colorectal cancer include laparoscopic surgery, resection, local excision, and polypectomy. The procedure of polypectomy is the removal of polyps which are some small growths found in colons lining. This method is performed by colonoscopy, the use of a colonoscope which is inserted to a rectum to view the colon and the rectum.

Local excision is being used for treating the cancers in rectum. It involves the removing of cancers and tissues from walls of the rectum. The procedure can be done through anus or small cuts in the rectums. The procedure does not require in doing some major operations in an abdominal part. The resection is removing of some parts of a colon along with tissues and cancers that are attached into it.

In laparoscopic surgery, the method of laparoscopy is being performed where in abdominal part cavities are checked by using the special type of scopes and cameras. The incision is performed in abdomen and instruments for laparoscopy are inserted into the small incision. The pictures that are seen in the intestinal organs are transmitted to video monitors for the surgeon to see.

The other four procedures for colorectal cancer surgery are stomas or ostomies, fecal diversion, K pouch, and J pouch. Stomas are the opening of some parts of bowel to the skin. Permanent stomas are being made if stool cannot pass into the normal route even after the surgery. While the temporary stomas are being made for keeping the stool away from the areas that are operated.

Fecal diversion is a process of performing ileostomy and colostomy. Ileostomy involves opening the parts in between small intestine and skin. Colostomy involves opening the parts in between colon and skin. This method is usually used as temporary measure to allow infection, surgery healing, and chronic inflammation.

K pouch will be attached into the anus for allowing the person in going to the bathroom the same way. It will provide a reservoir for stool and will add nipple valves for the prevention of stool leaking. This is not commonly used by surgeons since it involves a complex type of surgery.

The J pouch is made in the end of a small intestine in order to provide a place of stool before a person will go to a bathroom for the proctocolectomy. Many forms are under the ileal pouches. The J pouch is the very common form of ileal pouch.
