Physicians who specialize in treating teeth ailments are referred to a dentist. In other places, they are termed as dental surgeons. General anesthesia, implants and oral surgery are some of the services carried out by a dentist. There are two major activities involved during these visits as discussed below and reasons why some patients book dentist appointment in Mesa AZ and never show up on the D-day.

Screening is the first appointment process. In this stage, one goes through a brief oral check-up. The dentists discuss your condition and the correct treatment you should be given. The treatment does not begin at this stage. One is asked if they are willing to be visiting the specialist more often and if they can afford to pay for the charges. It majorly involves collecting your personal information.

The second stage involves full examination. The dental specialist explains to the patient processes they will undergo and the time required for the treatment to be complete. Some people term this stage as tooth-by-tooth examination since every tooth is well checked to ensure that if there is decay it is treated before it spreads to the next tooth. Here patients are made aware of the amount of money they will pay per visit.

Patients forget they had booked an appointment. They are busy working for long hours hence barely remember any prior bookings they made. They forget to set a reminder whether its a telephone call or letters. Some patients confuse the dates and show up to the clinics on the wrong day. During such occurrences patients should not be blamed instead they should be rescheduled for another day.

Changing location or jobs is one of the major factors influencing missed appointments. Their lives at this point are more complex than ever and a dental appointment would be the last thing in their mind. Some patients call to cancel, but most never remember they were supposed to visit a dental specialist. After changing a job or moving far from the hospital one had an appointment it is very easy to miss the visit knowingly or unknowingly.

Poor communication between the doctor and their patient increases the number of non-attendances. Doctors should follow up the condition of their patients since failure to do so makes patients conclude they are healed. Once the communication channel is improved, there would be an increase in the number of patients who show up for appointments.

Satisfaction is very important when it comes to patient-doctor relationship. When a patient is not comfortable with the services they receive on their first visit, they never return to the same physician. After the first appointment, some dentists do give out their patients to student dentists to continue treating them making most patients uneasy to return for a second visit.

Majority of broken appointments can be reduced if patients keep telephone or letter reminders and the hospital calling to confirm if the patients are planning on attending their check-up. Hospitals can also use the short message services as a way to remind patients of their appointments. Respect is reciprocal so if dentists do not cancel their schedule abruptly the patients should not.
